Great composition, you set this shot up just right. Well done!

@Mackenzie: thanks Mackenzie. this was purely good luck and good timing, since I took this [uncropped] shot from a moving boat.

i love this expanse of water in the foreground... the city looks so small from here!

LIke the limited color range and the moodiness. I might have tried to put the horizon a little higher in the picture to emphasize the water and the distance by making the city higher on the horizon. But that's just my thought and of course it stands very well as it is.

@GJC: Thanks for your comments GJC.
I did consider cropping this shot to move the horizon either up or down to the 1/3 mark, but didn't want to lose either the light in the sky above the city or the black water in the foreground. In the end I decided that although having the horizon bisect the shot is technically 'incorrect' and a central subject tends to feel static, I liked having the city in the static centre with all the energy of air and water around it.
I've uploaded a couple of crops here and here. As well as changing the composition, the crops emphasize the soft focus that results from the rain, the motion of the boat, and the large aperture and slow shutter speed. Let me know what you think.
A lovely dark blueness to this, the impending storm is clearly 'felt' in the image, good work.

great atmosphere her. really does look like a storm is brewing. especially like how dark the waves are at the bottom and how the lines of the waves and clouds sort of direct the eye towards the city.
