orcas are mammals and as such must breathe air. they surface regularly to blow out vast plumes of spray and inhale again.

@dj.tigersprout: thanks dj - we had an amazing time. we spent some time around Reykjavik then struck out in the opposite direction from you: toward the west and Snaefellsnes. it was snowy while we were there - whiteworld, variably-cloudy skies and *stunning* light. since it wasn't clear my only disappointment was that we didn't see the northern lights - I hope you got some shots!

so glad you had a great time!!! i didn't see the northern lights on my first trip north either... it was very disappointing... but my trip to iceland and norway more than made up for that!!! and speaking of northern lights... i think you'll like my shot for tomorrow!! :)
