strait of juan de fuca british columbia canada

as we were watching the orcas an enormous boat came steaming toward us: it turns out that the orcas were swimming around in the path of the Coho, the Port Angeles WA to Victoria BC ferry. the ferry had to come to a halt to let the orcas pass, and the ferry passengers got an unexpected thrill with their ride. orcas are large animals, but they and the zodiacs are tiny in comparison to the 340 foot, 100 car / 1000 passenger ferry. the passengers on the deck of the ferry remind one of the scale of the whales (thanks grouser :-)
