FlukePosted by baobab (Cambridge, United States) on 30 September 2008 in Animal & Insect. strait of juan de fuca british columbia canada orcas have a sophisticated culture, family structure and communication methods. transient orcas tend to be less vocal than resident (fish-eating) orcas because the marine mammals that are their prey are able to hear the orcas' voices. they do make use of lobtailing or tail slapping, and a couple of members of the crowd we were watching demonstrated this by beating the water with dramatically loud splashes of their tail flukes. --- we live in a beautiful world --- your feedback and suggestions are always appreciated - thanks for visiting
