for some reason (and I may be wrong), everglades alligators felt less dangerous than african crocodiles. there are also crocodiles in the everglades but we didn't see any and were told they are quite shy.

nonetheless, we avoided touching the water...

@Ina: Thanks Ina - this was my favourite alligator shot of the trip. He was just hanging out shining in the sun, as if he were patiently posing.

@danthro: there are lots of subtle differences, but the most obvious one is that alligators have blunt snouts while crocs have pointy noses. it's good to stay out of reach of all of them in case they feel hungry!
