@danthro: it was a warm (for January) day and the birds decided it was spring and therefore time to become territorial and start fighting! Every year there is a battle between the swans and the geese for control of various parts of the lake, particularly an island in the lower lake. They all want to build *their* nests in the prime location.

The cob (male swan) was trying to chase all the geese away. Although he's much bigger and stronger than the geese, there were far more of them - one pair of swans (and the pen = lady swan didn't enter battle) but lots and lots of geese who took turns taunting the male swan.

I think he was faster than this goose expected!
